DirecTV Equipment
If you’re thinking of getting a satellite system, then you’ll need to know
what hdtv satellite receivers and other satellite tv equipment will
be compatible with your current system and needs.
To start, there are different types of dishes and receivers, as well as advanced systems, all available in a number of satellite tv deals depending on the different satellite tv dealers.
Dishes and Receivers
Satellite dishes for satellite TV are available under manufacturer names: (e.g. Hughes, RCA, Sony, Panasonic, Samsung)
Advanced Systems
DirecTV with TiVo
Integrates any DirecTV programming package with up to 35 hours of digital recording (depending on program material) without videotape. It allows you to record two different shows at the same time and to pause and replay live television.
DirecTV with UltimateTV
Allows you to enjoy not only DirecTV Programming, but UltimateTV Services from Microsoft as well as digital video recording, live TV controls, interactive TV, and Internet access. Also you can get a system with dual satellite tuners, which let you record two live shows simultaneously or watch one show while recording another.
DirecTV with AOLTV
Connects directly to your TV. You can view complementary Web sites while watching TV. Lets you share photos plus send and receive e-mail. It also provides a built-in parental control chip.
DirecTV with DIRECT INTERACTIVE
This is a free service on some receivers and gives you access to up-to-the-minute news, sports, and weather information, plus the ability to interact with programs and order products, shops and free samples right from your television.
DirecTV with HDTV
To enhance the reception of the TV signal and take advantages
of High Definition Television and Dolby Digital surround sound.
There are two ways you can receive high-definition programming via DirectTV. The first is to purchase an HDTV set with the DirectTV System receiver built into the television. The second is to purchase a Direct TV multi-satellite system receiver and connect it to a high-definition-ready digital TV. In both alternatives a 18" x 24" oval DirecTV Multi-Satellite dish is also needed.
What’s right for you?
Now that you know what’s out there, you’ll need to find a satellite tv dealer
with the correct satellite dish system. Your satellite installers
should be able to properly inform you, but it is wise to be prepared
before committing to a satellite tv system.
